Reception
Welcome to Swallowfield Reception
Our ‘Reception’ classes are for our children who are in their first year of more formalised education year, from when they start school until they enter Year 1 in the September after they are 5.
The early years of a child’s life are an important stage when the foundations for future development are established. At school, in the reception classes, we foster the child’s own interests and offer activities that extend, enrich and develop potential. Activities and first hand experiences are the key to learning and lay the foundations for their further education.
Young children learn as they play. Attitudes, skills and knowledge are acquired as the child strives to understand his world.

Parent support for Read Write Inc letter sounds and digraphs:
Please find the formation rhymes for the letter sounds below in a document kindly produced by Miss Harding. Please note that since this document was created the set 1 sounds teaching order has changed slightly. All the digraphs (2 letters, 1 sound) are now taught after all the alphabet singular sounds have been taught.
