Swallowfield Stanley Challenge

Thursday, March 24, 2016

Today your child should be bringing home a letter introducing you all to the Swallowfield Stanley Challenge that is set over the holidays.

I would also like to take the opportunity to let you know that Swallowfield Stanley is now in the 21st century – and now has his own Twitter (username: sfstanley2016) and Instagram accounts (Username: swallowfieldstanley) to make it even easier to share the photographs that you take. Please do make sure you also add the hashtag #swallowfieldstanley to make them visible for everyone to see. Please make sure you do not put your child’s full name on the description of the photograph. Alternatively any photographs can be emailed to swallowfieldstanley@outlook.com.

Please find spare copies of the letter and recording sheet below:

Waste Week Is Underway!

Monday, March 7, 2016

After our ‘Clean for the Queen’ to celebrate her 90th birthday, the children throughout the school managed to fill a skip full of litter and rubbish collected from around the school grounds and the neighbouring  area.

Meanwhile, this years Eco-Committee dug up the results of last years committee’s landfill experiment. They had buried a wide range of materials to see what happened to them over the year as if they were in a landfill. We discovered why some of the materials in rubbish we found can be such a problem even after a year!

On Wednesday, the whole school will be involved in Waste Day, when we will be looking at ways to tackle waste, how we can reduce, reuse or recycle instead. Hopefully with lots of interesting activities to help us learn and remember.

Swallowfield Spelling Challenge

Friday, February 12, 2016

We have had an amazing day of spellings, quizzes and fun. The children have really enjoyed taking part in all of the challenges today and and we are very proud of all their hard work and effort. They will all have brought home their results so any sponsorship money can be collected and a certificate of participation.

In addition to the spelling challenge each year group has participated in an Inter-House quiz and I am pleased to announce the winners in each year group:

Foundation            Kingfishers

Year 1                      Woodpeckers

Year 2                      Robins

Year 3                      Woodpeckers

Year 4                      Goldfinches

The overall winners were Woodpeckers.

Well done to everyone who took part and thank you for your continued support and encouragement.

Helen Woodman
